Uist Wool yarn is raised, sheared and spun in the Outer Hebrides. The original idea to build a new Mill in North Uist emerged from a collective will to find a fresh purpose for local fleece that would reconnect the community with their cultural heritage of wool-working. The sheep are local, the fleeces are treated and spun at the specially built community mill hub, and the resulting yarn is as woolly and warm as you would expect. One of the more eco-friendly yarn options around.
Being a Hebridean myself I have a huge soft spot for this yarn, and its WAY more wearable than the local yarn I remember from my youth - bobban socks, anyone? With socks like that you didnt even need the wellies…
100% pure wool, hand wash only, natural fleece colour, undyed.
DK weight has 230m per 100g.
22 sts and 30 rows to 10 cm stocking stitch on 4 mm needles.
Aran weight has 145m per 100g.
18/19 sts and 25/26 rows to 10 cm stocking stitch on 4.5/5 mm needles
Solas ( Light) Natural Cream is from the Cheviot breed.
Fuaran (Spring/Stream) Natural Grey is from Texel, Zwartbles and Mixed breeds.
Sian (Storm) Natural Dark Grey is from Cheviot and Zwartbles breeds.
